Description
KILMORE COTTAGE
As you approach the residence along a gravel driveway flanked by manicured lawns and mature shrubbery, you are led to the front of a house which was built circa 1800 but underwent extensive renovations in 2008, during which it was heavily insulated, fitted with underfloor heating, and completely rewired and replumbed. These updates ensure modern comfort and efficiency while preserving the home’s historic charm.
Its stone facade, adorned with Virginia Creeper, that assumes a deep crimson hue come autumn. Stepping inside, you are welcomed by a light-filled porch, where exquisite original wooden flooring sets an inviting tone.
Crossing the threshold of double glass doors, you enter an inviting entrance hall with soaring tall ceilings and the same beautiful wood flooring, grounding you in the home’s rich history. To the left of the entrance hall lies the sitting room. Here, an open fire serves as the room’s focal point, creating a cosy ambiance. A large sash window with shutters offers sweeping views of the garden, allowing natural light to flood the space. Two sets of double doors provide passage to the adjoining kitchen and conservatory, seamlessly connecting the living area.
The conservatory is a wonderful space, characterised by expansive windows that create a bright and airy atmosphere, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living. This room is warmed by a wood-burning stove, ensuring that it can be enjoyed comfortably all year round. The heart of the home lies within the spacious kitchen, where modern amenities blend seamlessly with historic charm. Hand-painted timber units and a Belfast sink evoke a classic feel, while an oil-fired traditional Aga and an electric oven provide versatile cooking options. Central to the kitchen is an island unit with seating for three, offering a practical workspace and a welcoming spot for casual dining.
Off the kitchen is a utility room with back door access to the house, providing added convenience. The utility room also includes a toilet off it, enhancing its practicality.
Ascending the main staircase, the first floor reveals a family bathroom and four lovely bedrooms, tranquil retreats, each boasting its own unique charm and character. The master bedroom is complemented by an ensuite bathroom, and a walk-in wardrobe.
Interlinked with the main house, is a self-contained apartment featuring a combined kitchen and living room. The apartment also includes a bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. This versatile space is ideal for a variety of uses, such as a granny flat for elderly family members, accommodation for an au pair or a welcoming retreat for visiting guests.
