A small bit of history behind the Sanctuary, it was a former Church of Ireland chapel of ease. Between Macreddin and Tinakilly there was about 50 stonemasons working. In the 1600s Fogarthy’s Mill was constructed out of granite and later, local tradesmen in the 1700s using Tinakilly granite built lots of local houses and walls out of the local stone, also local churches and chapels including The Sanctuary.
