Working with People: Making Vital Moves
Working closely with people at all stages of their lives, as they dream of, buy and sell their homes has always meant that we have a clear insight into how much giving back matters. That’s why we take our role in the community seriously. Each year we develop and add to our projects to support, engage, and help out wherever we can.
How We Help
Programmes across all our businesses enable our colleagues to take time to support and make a difference with the charities of their choice. We commit to matching funds raised by our staff in support of their own initiatives.
As a nationwide network, we also support community-based projects by working with local clubs, charities and grassroots initiatives. From GAA clubs to mini rugby, soccer, hockey and tennis, to making sure Santa gets to visit at Christmas, and bringing a little extra sparkle to the darker months
Meanwhile, we partner with organisations, charities, and initiatives around Ireland, to help where we can, as much as we can.
Supporting Children at Temple Street Hospital
In 2006 we embarked on a project for Temple Street Children’s Hospital that we have continued ever since. Recognising the need for accommodation in Dublin for families with children in hospital, we purchased and raised funds to buy and refurbish a house close to the hospital. This means we have been able to offer a home away from home to the many families from all over Ireland, during the difficult times when their children are being cared for in Temple Street.
Also at Temple Street, our Annual Christmas Toy Appeal started in 2001 and is always a source of joy, as Sherry FitzGerald staff, family and friends donate toys and food vouchers to be distributed by the medical social workers at the hospital. At a time when gifts can be taken for granted, these toys mean so much to the children who really need them.
Walking for Breast Cancer Support
In 2021 we were honoured to become title sponsors of the 100K in 30 Days event, organised by Co. Louth couple Cara McAdam and Niall Carroll. 2023 is the fourth year of the event and to date over €4million has been raised for breast cancer services in Ireland, including the state-of-the-art Clinical Trial Centre in the new Breast Centre at Beaumont Hospital.
Inviting participants to walk, jog, run or wheel 100km (or more) during the month of June, we are delighted to continue our support for this valuable charity that impacts women’s health across Ireland. Our aim is to work together to increase participation around Ireland and the world, as communities come together to contribute towards new research and clinical trials, awareness, and outreach programmes, and support the vital work of cancer nurses.
Our CEO Steven McKenna said: "We are thrilled to once again be lead sponsor of 100K in 30 Days for the third consecutive year. Our 550 employees from over 100 offices around the country eagerly anticipate this event in June as it serves as a fantastic team building opportunity, albeit a highly competitive one. Breast cancer has affected so many people, and we take pride in supporting The Marie Keating Foundation."
This year, 100K in 30 Days for breast cancer is supporting The Marie Keating Foundation and will take place over the month of June. Organisers are calling on everyone – runners, walkers, those in wheelchairs, families, colleagues, schools, community groups and sports teams, whether you’re based in Ireland or abroad, to join the #pinkarmy and take part in the June event. Registration is now open at www.100kin30days.ie.
Empowering Through Education
At Sherry FitzGerald, we believe in the power of people to make change for the better, and we know that access to education is one of the strongest building blocks to help people realise their goals. Working with An Cosán, the Tallaght based educational support network, we are pleased to support a Scholarship Awards Programme in memory of Garret and Joan FitzGerald. The awards are instrumental in enabling students to overcome obstacles to education, and to enter third level education, no matter what barriers they may face.
Give A Day
We are committed to giving back to the community through our volunteer programme called 'Give A Day'. This program allows our employees to dedicate one day each year towards charitable activities by volunteering their time and skills.
We are proud to share some of the recent events that our teams have participated in as part of this initiative.
Sowing the Seeds for Tomorrow’s World
We take pride in actively supporting initiatives that promote environmental sustainability, biodiversity, and combat climate change. Recently, we collaborated with 'Bugs, Bees and Native Trees', an all-island climate action organisation, to contribute to their noble cause.
Our support involved all our offices receiving funds to partner with a local school and donate towards the planting of ten native trees or saplings on their grounds. We are excited about this imaginative initiative, which encourages children to get involved in environmental thinking and witness a more hopeful future taking shape.
We are delighted to have participated in this program, which aligns with our commitment to creating a better and more sustainable world for future generation.
