County Cork
P75 FT96
Description
This is a very special setting, enjoying complete privacy, while at one with nature. Otter Bank built in 2005, enjoys privacy but is also close to cultural, shopping and water sports along the coast line. Many famous personalities have favoured this quiet, peaceful, beautiful location in West Cork.
Otterbank is set apart from many other fine waterfront homes, not only due to its impressive position and its view across the water and stunning mountain scenery beyond, but its ease of access to the water; a premium and rarity across the general waterfront homes market.
Impressive gates and gravelled driveway greet you and sets the tone towards this extremely comfortable and luxurious house in a prime waterfront position.
The main house
Otterbank is the perfect holiday home or family home, with low maintenance and exceptional scenery. A superb house for entertaining, of particular note is the lounge which opens out onto the most amazing terrace that overlooks the water, perfect for alfresco dining.
The entrance brings you straight into the lounge area which encapsulates the panoramic and breath-taking sea views. The open plan kitchen/dining also takes full advantage of the wonderful views. A pantry is located to the side of the kitchen. To the rear of the house of the house is a private dining room and utility room. There are two bedrooms downstairs, both ensuite with marvellous views, a study, guest wc and cloakroom.
Custom-built for the house was the wide, winding staircase, in wrought iron which leads to the first floor, there are two further bedrooms, main bathroom, large gallery and sitting room/office. The sitting room and gallery are both peaceful areas to sit and enjoy the views.
Gardens and grounds
Otterbank which has a sunny facing aspect, extends to c. 2.79ha(6.89acres) of landscaped gardens. The immediate surrounds of the house are a very prominent feature and have been well cared for.
Access to the water A private residence which leads down through its own grounds to a shingled coastline. Along with the private quay, the boatshed, decking area and cabana this all adds to a wonderful lifestyle. Otterbank benefits from approximately 1,000 feet of indented shoreline with shingle and seaweed-strewn swimming coves, with paths, pier and sheltered boat mooring.
Otterbank is set about 500 metres off the Glengarriff-Castletownbere road, about 4km on the Cork side of Castletownbere and to one of the two ferry points to Bere Island. Castletownbere has the sheltering presence of Bere Island as a sanctuary, with two daily ferries and just a short hop over the bay. Bere has a long naval history under the British Empire, and is one of the country’s busiest white fishing ports, with produce trucked and shipped to the continent almost daily.
The Beara Peninsula, with its mountains and valleys are rich in archeological sites, scenic lakes, cradled by stunning mountains and rugged coastlines.
Castletownbere
Castletownbere is Ireland’s biggest white fishing port and 4km from Otterbank. Some fine restaurants with fresh fish are found in this lovely fishing town. The Square makes for a hub of activity with its pubs and shops all within easy access and parking.
Walking and Cycling
Linking the whole area is the Beara Way walking trail, a cycling route and the Ring of Beara.
Sailing and watersports
The Beara Peninsula provides a well-established centre for water sports, including dinghy racing, water-skiing, windsurfing and sailing. The water here is unusually calm and clear, making it perfect for swimming and water sports. Otterbank is 1km straight across to Bere Island yachting Marina. Boat charter is available for those who do not own a craft and mooring is in abundance for those who do. Cork is arguably Ireland’s premier Sailing County with Royal Cork, Kinsale and Schull clubs within an easy drive.
Cork Airport and Kerry Airport
Cork airport is 120km and Kerry airport is 110km
